Canning garden Veg in Late July & Garden Flower Bouquets

Garden vegetables are a treasure to me. You work so hard to make things grow, produce well, and stay at healthy. 

I was glad to have picked the second flush of beans this past Sunday. Ashley and I cleaned them up and my Grandmother canned them.

Then, I canned some cucumbers. I've made two small batches so far.

Ashley surprised me Saturday night with a bouquet of her Mother's garden flowers. They were stunning. I can't stop taking pictures of them...

Cucumber & squash blooming & country flower gardens

 My usual Sunday routine is going to check on one or my gardens at my grandparent's house. Today as the rain poured, the vining plants tangled with one another and are blooming thick.

Here is the cucumber patch, growing with the pumpkin on a trellis and the trailing cushaw plants. At this point, the potatoes look like they're dying out. They were growing next to the cucumber patch. I hoed the potato mounds regularly, fertilized, mulched, and yet, they don't seem to act like they're going to make anything of themselves.

I have a tiny cucumber that will be ready to pick in a couple of days.

The bush brand are blooming and entangling with the gourd plants. I put one of the massive gourd plant up on a trellis as it is growing amongst the rows of beans. 

On the other side are the rows of corn. The corn are growing alongside beans and squash; although it's growing densely, the Three Sister method growing style is supposed to be beneficial to the plants.

A small patch of cantaloupe is blooming in a nook amongst the beans. 

While I analyzed my veggie garden, I took amusement in my grandma K's flower garden. She has revamped the flowers and gardens this year. She has created a very whimsical and fantastical flow of blooms from every edge or her yard. 

Countey garden: Corn, beans, & squash Summer

As mentioned in yesterday's post, I was going to dedicate some time in the garden today. 

I hoed around my rows of corn, beans, potatoes, cushaw, cucumbers and pumpkins. Afterwards, I strung up the plants so they can vine/grow vertically. 

There are other portions of this garden that I didn't highlight; but they have some onions and brassicas growing. It is just quite minimal. 

Next week, I'll focus on my other garden. I should have berries turning ripe and ready to harvest there soon.

I have not put garden tasks into my schedule these past couple of weeks. Although, I am hoping I can at least work in one of my gardens tomorrow; hoeing, weeding, and stringing up around plants. 

When I'm home, I mostly have been caring for my houseplants. They love the heat and humidity but they don't love when the sun hits them in the evening hours (my porch gets evening sun where I keep the plants.) 

I have some Hibiscus flowers blooming on my porch...

And of course as you know, I also have a habit of taking photos of others' flower gardens...

My partner's mother is the nurturer of these beautiful flowers...

My grandma has worked festively on her flower beds...she likes petunias, impatiens, and begonias...

Here is a peach I picked, straight off the tree. It took a pool skimmer to get it. It was deliciously juicy. These peaches were at my other grandmother's. Here, I also admired the flower garden...

My grandmother's flower garden consisted of passion flowers, lilies, roses, yucca, and the dahlia.

Everybody has their "thing" that they grow. And plants have their "spots" where they want to grow.
