I have been showing you the pink blooms of the peaches and nectarines, but the beauty of the pears and plums persists too...they're petals are white and delicate, and just bloomed spectacularly...

To walk in a wet, green, and lush path is an essential to the health of my lungs, my mind, my eyes. After a rain, it's like breathing more deeply, your mind is clear and your eyes are calm. I took this photo to capture that feeling while I was in the garden...

Today, I walked through the garden to observe, study, and pick some cilantro and put the houseplants and seedlings outside to get some fresh air and better sunlight.

Here you can see that the beds are filled with the radishes, lettuce and spinach plants that have emerged from the soil. I have six garden beds full of seedlings. It's humbling and a blessed feeling to be able to pick and eat from my garden when the world is continually and currently in chaos, with limited supplies and food.

Continually, I will sow seed in the beds amongst the growth of the other veggies--interplanting carrots, onions, then peas, and other cool loving crop seed. 

Anxiously I wait for May, to plant tomatoes, peppers, squash, melons, artichoke, and much more...

The flower seed had been sown using the EZ straw bale with 48,000 wildflower seed, and then boxes of additionally flower seed.

Of course, I keep idolizing the spring flowers blooming now, taking pictures of the same flower over and over. Pictures do not do flowers justice! Pictures don't show the intricate veins and colors and you can't smell the dizzying aroma of flowers.

New garden project: Stepping tile walkways

Today, I had the day off work, so I took some time to work extra hard in the garden and wash my truck.

I managed to lay tile down for a walkway, sow flower seed, and water the gardens.

This morning, I took a quick trip to Lowes to buy pavers sand. With this, I am making a walkway in between two garden beds. On top of the sand, I am laying ceramic tile. It is halfway finished as I need to buy 3 more bags of sand for this walkway.

I'll show you the progress so far...I have 7 more of these tiles left to lay.

I will not be able to use large ceramic tiles like these in between the other garden beds, but I may be able to use bricks. I have many more ceramic tiles to use if I wanted but the purchase of sand can be quite expensive for these extensive garden projects, so we'll see if I change my mind.

As I said, I sowed seed in the new herb and flower bed. I put out Dill, sage, rosemary, thyme, fennel, and over 50,000 wildflower seed. I really want my front yard to be a majestic, whimsical, fantastical delight to the eyes and nose. I hope this herb and flower bed becomes a big show this year!

And of course, I made sure to water the garden of greens I recently sowed and the bed flower seed. The cilantro in the vegetable garden looks lush. It will be growing ever more luscious once I apply mulch around the plants.

Finally! Today I sowed the first seeds of the year outdoors.

With the first garden bed, I used the bulb planter tool to make pockets in the mulch, and filled them with fine garden soil. I sowed different lettuces and radish.

On the following days this week, it was nice warm weather, so I continued to plant....

In the second bed, I sowed French Breakfast radish seed, Lollo Rosso lettuce, black seeded Simpson lettuce, ruby red lettuce, and Oakleaf lettuce seed amongst the radish.

In the third bed, I sowed Spinach and arugula together.

In the fourth, I sowed Swiss Chard and Dinosaur Kale amongst the already established cilantro plants.

In the fifth, I sowed Cilantro, Chives, French breakfast radish, and Peizehead lettuce seed were sown.

In the sixth bed, Iceberg lettuce and Buttercrunch lettuce seed were planted.

Now, all six garden beds are filled with seed and they're each covered with plastic or cloth. I planted raspberry plants as well amongst the blueberry bushes. I watered the garden beds and raspberry plants then covered them back over.

 Now we wait for the seedlings to sprout...

Pears

There's many varieties of fruits growing and vegetables in the garden at this time. Pears, peaches, nectarines, plums, grapes, aronia berries, blueberries, and so much more are quickly growing. The blueberries are already turning blue and I have been putting up fencing to keep the birds out. The grapes are getting plump as well, so I'll also need to put up additional fencing around them to keep birds out.

The vegetable gardens are in full swing. There's broccoli, cauliflower, peas, potatoes, onions, lettuce, spinach, cilantro, radishes, carrots, beans, squash, and melons all densely growing together. This type of gardening is called polyculture and has many benefits, such as companion planting, pest prevention, and artistic aesthetic.

While this garden flourishes, my other gardens are steadily progressing but need much more attention. My other garden has lettuce and other greens, beans, and potatoes growing but I need to work over there a bit more, and then I'll highlight those gardens with some pictures to come.
